Hot Trends in Wedding Photography and Video 2012 -2013!

So we are halfway through the year 2012 already...what a year so far! We have been involved with so many unique weddings recently I thought we'd share some of the trends and ideas we have seen that seem to be popular with our brides. Hope you enjoy it!

#1 Quirky and fun!
We always make sure that we offer our clients unique and personal photography but some wish to take that further then we have seen in previous years! We have had all sorts of requests from our Bride and Grooms this year...some really crazy! I personally think that this is a great thing as it is breaking the mould of the somewhat boring and old fashioned wedding day and turning it into a unique celebration of a couples personality. Can't wait for the next set of crazy weddings now!

#2 Unusual Vehicles!

We have seen some really novelty vehicles this year including.. bicycles, big yellow buses, wartime jeeps, 1930's hot rods, fairytale horse and carriages, VW Campers, chromed Aston Martin DB9's...the list goes on! If you have a theme choose a great ride to go with it!

#3 Vintage Themes!
We have been inundated with requests for Vintage Style Photography this year and we have more requests for next year as well! From 'make do and mend' to 'shabby chic' to 'steam punk'....we have had them all! The most popular themes have been the 1940's and 1950's however. I personally love vintage theme weddings and I really think that these weddings make for very relaxed and personalised wedding days.

# 4 Church Weddings!

Church Weddings seem to be on the rise for us during 2012 where in previous years civil service venues have ruled the roost. I also love church weddings as the atmosphere and lighting really help to give the photographs a traditional yet modern intimate feel.

#5 No Speeches!
This has been a real surprise this year! Quite a few of the weddings we have been involved with this year have not included the traditional speeches. Some of our clients have decided that it was too old fashioned and nerve wracking to include them at their wedding and preferred a more relaxed affair where the father of the bride, best man and groom didn't have to sit through their dinners panicking about the dreaded speech!

We would love to hear about your wedding day and any trends that you think we have missed! Please comment on this post to add to the trends!

Wedding Trends for 2012 and 2013!

Extract From the In Bliss Blog page.

Just like fashion and art, weddings are subject to trends. While some of these trends are purely aesthetic, many of them are truly functional. If you are worried about feeling like a trend-follower, don’t be! We promise these great ideas are fresh and haven’t been exhausted by the masses! Not yet, anyways.

1. Receptions: The classic black-tie, white tablecloth theme is making a strong comeback.  Influenced by the popularity of the Royal Wedding, this theme has always been a popular one, but is now experiencing an even greater resurgence.  This glamorous look, combined with some of the rustic, DIY aspects of last year, make for an elegant but personal ceremony and reception.  In addition to the classic black and white, nude and neutral tones are becoming popular for weddings, as well.

2. Wedding Invitations: Wedding invitations for 2012-2013 include a smattering of bright colors, floral lace patterns and vintage frames.  Family crests, historical, or created just for your wedding invitations, are become creative and popular features.  This is without a doubt inspired by Royals.  The colors should either be neutral tones or black and white, but with some brighter pinks and blues thrown in.  Intricate laser-cut designs are becoming more affordable, and will be the next big thing for wedding stationery.

3. Flowers: Floral trends for this year, include having collections of different vessels filled with solid colors to help populate the tablescape.  Some designers say that the age of the single centerpiece is over. Also, flowers aren’t the only thing that will be on your wedding tables.   Potted herbs such as basil, and bundles of dried herbs, such as rosemary can add some beautiful greens and unique shapes to your table.  Living centerpieces, in the form of terrariums, are also becoming popular.  These can be beautiful, miniature self-contained gardens within jars, and are a unique and beautiful centerpiece.

4. Cakes: Cakes of 2012-2013 incorporate clean lines and mix-and-match tiers.   Gone are the days of a completely round 4-tiered cake, which is being replaced by any combination of square, circle and hexagonal tiers.  The colors of cakes are the normal white and cream, but there have been many requests for lavender and light greens.

5. Food & Drink: Artisan cocktails will be the rage for refreshments of 2012-2013 weddings.  Signature drinks are living up to their name, as many couples are hiring skilled mixologists to design cocktails that no one else has (probably) had at their wedding.  Seasonal and local foods are becoming popular choices for weddings for many good reasons, including price, freshness and originality.

Vintage Wedding Tips and Ideas

List of 10 top tips and vintage wedding ideas from http://www.littlemisswedding.co.uk

1. Mix new with authentic vintage items to create a retro feel with a fresh perspective for the 21st century bride.
2. The venue is hugely important in achieving the look, if you can’t find somewhere with the appropriate architecture or decor consider a plain backdrop such as a marquee or a glass structured building like an orangery against which your vintage details will stand out.
3. Choose your photographer well. A good photographer will be able to create retro style photographs by using different exposures, lighting and journalistic shots.
4. Be prepared to research – vintage dresses, accessories and often perfect venues are easily found in mainstream wedding shops and websites.
5. Live music will really give you a vintage feel over a DJ. Ask the band members to dress according to your chosen era, including hair and make-up for the ladies to give you ultimate authenticity.
6. Consider giving guests something vintage themed as their favour. For example if you are doing an American 1950s themed wedding, put lolly pops in vintage popcorn cases – this will make fantastic photographs when your guests dig in!
7. A wedding planner will really take the stress of planning all this detail away, however if you’d rather plan the wedding yourself you can still go to specialists to help source vintage wedding suppliers. LeKeux Events have fact sheets and even a ‘Vintage Wedding Starter Kit’ which can be purchased at tiny prices and will save you tons of time!
8. Be confident in your styling, commit to the look through your hair and make-up and get a skilled professional to help to achieve an authentic look. Vintage glamour is the ultimate in celebrating all that is feminine and sexy! Soon to come Vintage hair and make up tips.
9. Ask Granny! You’ll be amazed what you can beg, borrow and steal for your vintage wedding. Whether it’s Granny’s pearls, old lace table cloths or teacups, you’ll find something in those cupboards to help you achieve your vintage look.
10. Lastly…enjoy it! Choosing to have a vintage wedding doesn’t have to be about getting every detail perfect, so don’t sweat it if you can’t find everything you’re looking for, just enjoy being a glamorous vintage goddess for a day!

The Rise of The Vintage Wedding Theme!

Here at Mark Ammon Photography we love unique, creative and personal Weddings. We also love the chic and stylish  look of Vintage wedding themes. We have noticed that the popularity of Vintage Weddings is still growing! A few years ago people were saying that the trend was just a fad and would soon be forgotten, however....it is still as popular as ever! So why?

Vintage Weddings conjure up a more simple, peaceful time where the pace of life was slower which is the complete opposite of modern living. A vintage wedding can be the perfect sort of escapism from the stresses and strains of the modern world. Vintage weddings seem to be more relaxed and don't follow the rigidity of formal weddings and above all lets the happy couple be more relaxed and actually enjoy their day!

From a photographers point of view, vintage weddings can be the most creative and fun types of wedding to shoot. A relaxed atmosphere gives you relaxed, emotional and happy people...A must for beautiful photographs!

What do you need for a Vintage Wedding? Where do we start! You need to ask yourself: Am I looking for a specific period or a general vintage theme? If you are looking for a period then the internet is a great resource for researching vintage weddings. Also talk to people (if possible) that got married in the era that you are interested in to find out about their wedding day. Also ask to see their pics! Look for suppliers who specialise in vintage clothing hire, vintage cars from the period, cake makers vintage flower experts, vintage dress makers and photographers and videographers that can shoot in a vintage style. If you are looking for a more general theme then charity and second hand shops can unearth loads of vintage gems! Also make sure that you research appropriate venues where your theme can come alive!

A couple of popular themes in the UK at the moment are farm/country weddings and beach weddings. These weddings are some of the most chilled and relaxed weddings we have ever come across! A farm./country wedding can involve vintage dresses, tweed suits, wild flowers in milk urns, beautiful decorated barns...the list goes on! Look for venues that have outside weddings and barn out buildings to make this type of wedding come alive!

A beach wedding is my absolute favourite as a photographer! I love the colours, sounds and above all relaxed and happy people to take photos of! What could be better then turning up to your wedding in a vintage VW camper van, wearing a vintage 60's dress! You don't even have to live near the coast! Choose a venue that lets you eat outside and informally, you may think about having a bbq! You could decorate the venue with beach type accessories and ask guests to wear relaxed linen suits and beach type dresses.

So where do you start to plan a vintage wedding? We get asked this a lot! That got us thinking....What if we could try and get together with all the other vintage wedding suppliers that are dotted around the UK? What if there was some central source that Brides could visit to help them plan their vintage wedding? After a good few months of networking, talking to friends and meeting with suppliers all over the country we found some amazing, creative and talented people. Great you might be thinking...that's great for you...what about for my wedding?! The second part of our plan was then devised. We decided to create a central website where all the best vintage wedding experts that we found could come together to show there work so that if you are planning a vintage wedding in the UK you have one site to visit. A one stop vintage wedding shop! We decided to call this venture: The Vintage Theme Wedding Company!

We planned the website along with our founding partner Clare Luke at The Traditional Vintage Flower Company and it has just gone live this week! The site isn't quite finished yet as we are still receiving examples and wording from some of our suppliers but we are pleased to say that we have photography, videography, flowers and cake areas of the site up and running!
